Clips for Good Behavior

Here is a simple way to encourage good behavior while riding. My friend Carrie Capes of Horsepower TR explains she created these smiley clips that her riders earn by doing good work. When they earn 5, they get to choose their activity – “free choice!” She says it’s very effective with kids with lots of behaviors and got the idea from conference. I’m thinking it might have been from the seminar “Behavior Bootcamp: Behavioral Techniques in EAAT Emilie Ross M.Ed., BCBA”? Either way that powerpoint is worth a look!

I did something similar with one of my riders today, who is easily distracted. I wouldn’t say it helped focus her, but it was nice to have something to work toward.

I think I’d like to make a set of 4 that each have a letter on them, when put together spell “T-R-O-T”, so when the rider gets all 4 and spells the word, they get to trot!

What props have you used to tally up for a reward?
